Stevenson Gets Redemption, Breaks Losing Streak

By Angie O'Brien - @angieobrien2017 10/17/2019, 10:30pm CDT

Heading into Thursday night’s game, Stevenson had spent the month of October winless,  suffering losses to Barrington, Glenbrook North, Saint Viator and Hinsdale. In its first contest against Carmel Catholic, Stevenson went down 5-4 but redeemed itself in Buffalo Grove after a 5-0 win over the Corsairs.

“Last game we got down on ourselves,” said Davis Jaegers. “We came in with a positive attitude, we worked together, not as many penalties and we did much better overall.”

It was slow moving for Carmel and Stevenson though the first and second periods. Carmel’s defense was in full force but a goal finally came in from Stevenson’s Brett Stokes, about six minutes into the second period. From there the scoring stopped until there were 11 minutes left in the game. The flood gates opened and goals from Jaegers (2), Giorgi Gagua and Itai Kleiman sealed the win. At the end of the day, the Patriots outshot Carmel 33-8.

“We wanted to play a little tight defensively, and they did a nice job of that,” said Stevenson head coach Tom Wood. “We’re just trying to get bodies in front of the net. I think we did that well and we had a good third period. Pucks just bounced the right way.”

Previewing the 2019/2020 SHL Game of the Week

October has arrived and if you follow the SHL, you know that means one thing: the SHL Game of the Week is back!

In year 4 of the SHL Game of the Week, Taylor Rammelt, Jimmy Olson, and Max Anderson will once again serve as the core team bringing you the top high school hockey in the state of Illinois streaming live every week through the championship of the SHL season. While much will be the same, here is a peek at some of the changes and additions to our broadcasts.

Back on YouTube Live

Following a long run on High school Cube, last season we made the switch to YouTube Live! This move proved to be an incredible decision on the SHL Network’s part. Most of the improvements are in the background, but the viewing experience on mobile devices, tablets, as well as TVs drastically improved on YouTube. In addition, You Tube does not limit the amount of games we are able to store allowing teams and relatives to go back and watch the game after the fact if they aren’t able to live.

Three New Teams Join the SHL

The Scholastic Hockey League has expanded to 10 teams! We welcome OPRF, Carmel Catholic, and St. Viator to the league and look forward to having all 3 teams on several Game of the Week broadcasts.

In-Game Production Improvements

Last season we introduced the pre-game, in-game, and post-game interviews to the broadcast. The feedback on these interviews was tremendous, and you better believe we are bringing it back! We are looking at expanding these to a “Between The Glass” style full time, 3rd broadcaster role on the weekly crew along with Taylor and Max. Expect even more analysis, more sound, and more content throughout the broadcast from all different perspectives.

Introducing the 2019/2020 SHL Sponsors

The SHL has been lucky enough to have tremendous sponsorships over the years that have, in large part, contributed to our ability to bring you the SHL Game of the Week. We have some familiar names back this year that have been long time sponsors of the SHL; but with the familiar staples, we have some new sponsors as well. Check them all out below!
