Scholastic Cup Final

Loyola Gold outlasted Saint Viator in the Varsity Scholastic  Cup Monday night at Rinkside in Gurnee.

Viator started fast, on the first shift of the game Harout Torosian found lose puck and scored just 23 seconds into the game.

Gold got their legs underneath themselves and would tie the game 3 minutes later on a powerplay  from Evan MaCEwen.

The game featured both teams trying to hit on stretch passes and a lot of neutral ice play.

Johnny Sullivan would break the tie 9 minutes into the 2nd period as he found a rebound and backhanded a shot over the sprawling Brian Biehl of Saint Viator, the goal was also a powerplay goal.

Viator answered right back 44 seconds later as a shot from the point from Michael Callahan found its mark.

With game locked at 2,  Loyola converted their 3rd powerplay opportunity with a goal from Ryan Cowen.

The turning point of  the game came with just over 2 minutes gone in the 3rd period when a Viator turnover led to a 2 on 0 and Golds' Evan MacEwen made no mistake with the chance and put Gold up by 2.

The save of the game came with about 10 minutes to play as Viator on rush had a shot that found its way to the Golds net and Gold's goalie  Ben Moro made the initial save but the puck popped out into the slot and with Moro falling forward was able to save and smother the rebound and protect the 2 goal lead.

Loyola would add an empty netter to finish the scoring on their way to the Scholastic Cup Championships.

Shots on goal  33 to 20 in favor of Loyola.
