Playoff Rules-Varsity
15 Minute periods
No ice cuts
No double jeopardy for game misconducts, exception is playoffs. Should a player receive a game misconduct he must serve the next SHL playoff game.
3 man shoot out to decide tied games, Goalies do not switch sides
Sudden death shoot out to decide games tied after 3 man shoot out
All players must be used in a shoot out before you can use a player for the second time
Players that have carry over penalties MAY NOT shoot in the shoot out.
7 up and 7 down rule in effect.
All other USA rules are in effect.
2 man ref crew
No Tier 1 Players allowed
Teams playing with Illegal players forfeit any games the player plays in and further action maybe taken.
Playoff rules-JV
Sudden death play decides playoff games
Goalies change ends to far change first OT.
OT periods are 10 minute
First 10 minutes 5 on 5
Remaining periods 10 minutes 3 on 3 switch ends every 10 minutes
No Varsity players may come down to play
2 man ref crew
Any double rostered player from Tier 2 teams must play in 60% of all league games.
If a team is found to play with and illegal player the team forfeits the game and further action maybe taken by R&E.
Handshakes only after the series completion.
Tie Breakers
1. Head to Head
2. 3 teams tied- Points earned between the teams, once that creates a separation then head to head. If points earned between the 3 teams is tied the first tie breaker is wins between the teams, than again head to head between the two left over teams.
3. More than 3 teams follow the rules for 3 teams.
SHL BYLAWS
Section 1
Article 1-Name of the Organization
Illinois High School Hockey League-Scholastic Division also known as the Scholastic Hockey League (SHL).
Article 2- Corporate Purpose-
The purpose of the organization is to coordinate, promote and administer all hockey operation for its league members.
Section 2- Specific purposes of the SHL
Set game rules for JV and Varsity leagues.
Set schedules
Obtain Refs for each league game
Maintain league standings
Provide awards for players and teams.
Provide marketing and promotion for the league.
Article 3 Membership
League membership are high school hockey teams both at the Varsity and JV level.
Any new member must be unanimously be accepted by members and must participate for 4 years.
Members must provide a Varsity and JV team unless granted an exemption by the members by a simple majority vote.
Should a team finish last or second to last at the Varsity level two years in a row the team maybe dismissed by a unanimous vote by league members.
All member teams must have certified USA hockey rosters.
No AAA players, Tier 2 players maybe double rostered but must play 60% of games to be eligible to play in the playoffs.
Section 2-League fees are to be set by the President based on a new budget.
Section 3-The Varsity coaches from each member team gets one vote. Should a member have more than 1 varsity team the organization still gets only 1 vote.
Article 4 Meetings of Members
The members will hold at least 1 annual meeting between the months of July-August of each year.
Article 5-Board of Directors
Section 1- General Powers
The board of directors are the Varsity Coaches from member schools. The board is of directors have control and responsibilities for the management of the league.
Section 2-Officers are President, Junior Varsity Director, Secretary, Rules and Ethics, Treasurer, and scheduler.
Each term is 2 years.
Voting to take place in May. Officers elected by a simple majority
Meetings can be called by any member to discuss league issues.
Officers can be removed by a simple majority, cause must be specified.
Article 6-Bylaws can be amended by a simple majority vote.
