In front of a capacity crowd at Heartland Ice Arena, New Trier Green defeated Loyola Gold in a rematch of last year's Scholastic Cup by the score of 4-2. Winning the series 2-0.
Unlike game 1, the Trevians dictated play early and jumped out to a 3 goal lead in the first period.
Costa Pavlopoulos opened the scoring with a long wrist shot. Mason Smith added a second goal midway thru the period. Charlie Burton capped off the period as on a penalty kill he took a pass in the high slot and buried another wrist shot pushing the lead to 3-0.
Loyola did find some life early in the 2nd period when they were able to capitalize on a man advantage, Cooper Prawdzik scored the on a scramble play making the score 3-1.
Another late period goal by New Triers William Baldwin pushed the lead back to 3 heading into the 3rd period.
The Ramblers never quit and might have had their best period of the short series when Anthony Guzzardo scored with 14 minutes to go in the game cutting the deficit to 2.
Trevians, Hayden Wierczorek was again outstanding in goal and the back pressure created by the New Trier continued to create problems for the Ramblers attack.
New Trier finished the year by only losing one league game and that was in a shootout loss to Carmel of Indiana. Green finished the year by capturing the Presidents Trophy as the regular season Champion and the Scholastic Cup.
Next on their list is the State Championship later in March, they will be a tough out.
