Loyola Gold may have swept the Barrington Broncos after a 3-1 win in the SHL quarterfinals Saturday, but the Broncos didn't make it easy.

Their first contest in the SHL Playoffs was Wednesday, February 3rd where Loyola took a 2-1 win. Barrington took the lead early with a power play goal by Mike Brusa in the first period. It was in the second where Ryan Hill  found the back of the net on a power play and the Broncos held the tie until the final minutes of the third when Danny O'Grady and Hill connected for the winning goal.

Saturday night, the tables turned a little but the Broncos still put up a fight.

"[Barrington] was a different team than the last two games," said Loyola head coach DJ LaVarre. "Wednesday's game was a nail-biter and today's game was a typical, intense game. We saw a lot of emotion."

Gold hit the board first with just under eight minutes left in the first. After a scoreless second, Barringotn's Tom Slott tied it up with 16:13 left in the third. At the 14:33 mark however, Kyke Rock broke the tie and sealed the win for Loyola.

"They scored a goal and we came right back, that shows a lot of character," said LaVarre. "We bent but we didn't break and kept going. I'm really proud of them."

Gold captain Ryan Hill agrees that Barrington gave them a run for their money.

"They gave us a good fight and we liked it," Hill said. "Now we move on for Glenbrook North."

Glenbrook North defeated Stevenson Saturday night 5-0 and Loyola knows what they need to do to prepare.

"We have to keep the intensity up," said Hill. "All three periods. We know they're going to come hard and we just have to come harder, that's all there is to it."

The next round of the SHL Playoffs between Loyola Gold and Glenbrook North is still to be determined.
