He has been seen playing for Boston University and before any of our current SHL players were born, he was an NHL Entry-Level Draft Pick (1989). But the SHL knows him as former St. Viator head coach Chris Lappin. Nowadays you  will see him on the Friars' bench.

After taking a year off from coaching the Lions to coach Midget U15, Lappin is calling Oak Park home.

"I'm back (coaching high school) and I could not be happier," he said. "Good people, good parents, they've all been very welcoming."

Lappin said he and his team are at that stage where they're still getting to know each other and figure out what works on the ice but there as nothing but positivity in the tone of his voice. He also sounds very excited about the structure of his team.

"We have a short bench which I love," he said. "It gets all the kids involved. I don't have to worry about getting everyone ice time and developing them. We're getting better and better and that's all I can ask.

The Friars currently sit fifth in the SHL with a 4-6 record but remember, it's still October.

"We're just learning lessons and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't," Lappin said. "Not everyone is going to be competitive every year but I think it's great that they get this kind of competition and we give them chances to compete with other great teams."
