As he walked towards the bench, York head coach Matt Boeing said it was going to be an exciting game. He wasn’t wrong and the Dukes didn’t disappoint after a 3-2 OT win over Glenbrook South Friday night in Addison.

“We knew it was going to be a big game,” said York goaltender Adam Kaczmarek. “And the fans really showed up”

The rink was packed and the energy was high as Glenbrook South and York left the first period scoreless. York got things going with 14:38 left in the second and the Titans quickly followed to tie it. A goal by John Mulvey gave GBS the 2-1 lead with 2:36 left in the second. Despite being down heading into the third, Kaczmarek kept his cool.

“You just got to stay dialed in, you know?” He said “Eventually the (crowd) gets blocked out and eventually it’s just you and the game.”

Kaczmarek also said that the Dukes did have a bit of a slow start.

“We didn’t start with a lot of energy,” he said. “I thought that the chances we did get, we capitalized on.”

One in particular was Bobby Plummer’s game-tying goal in the third. GBS and York held their ground to send the game into overtime where Plummer knocked in a short-handed goal to win the game.

“It was crazy,” he said. “All of the fans were going nuts.”
