Heading into Thursday night’s game, Stevenson had spent the month of October winless,  suffering losses to Barrington, Glenbrook North, Saint Viator and Hinsdale. In its first contest against Carmel Catholic, Stevenson went down 5-4 but redeemed itself in Buffalo Grove after a 5-0 win over the Corsairs.

“Last game we got down on ourselves,” said Davis Jaegers. “We came in with a positive attitude, we worked together, not as many penalties and we did much better overall.”

It was slow moving for Carmel and Stevenson though the first and second periods. Carmel’s defense was in full force but a goal finally came in from Stevenson’s Brett Stokes, about six minutes into the second period. From there the scoring stopped until there were 11 minutes left in the game. The flood gates opened and goals from Jaegers (2), Giorgi Gagua and Itai Kleiman sealed the win. At the end of the day, the Patriots outshot Carmel 33-8.

“We wanted to play a little tight defensively, and they did a nice job of that,” said Stevenson head coach Tom Wood. “We’re just trying to get bodies in front of the net. I think we did that well and we had a good third period. Pucks just bounced the right way.”
